Nine Hearts Exploring
Jun 16-Sep 01
Jack Fischer Gallery is pleased to present Nine Hearts Exploring, a group show of works by Creativity Explored artists Samedi Djeimguero, Daniel Green, Camille Holvoet, Andrew Li, John Patrick McKenzie, James Miles, Roland Record, Evelyn Reyes, and Nubia Ortega. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, June 16, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at our Potrero location. The show will be up through September 1, 2018. Selected works include Andew Li’s gestural line drawings and James Miles’s miniature ink pieces of quiet narratives that draw the viewer for closer examination of his deceptively simple compositions. Evelyn Reyes’s graphic and mysterious oil pastel drawings and Camille Holvoet’s depictions of colorful confections add vibrant pops of pigment among the monochromatic line drawings. Further along the color spectrum is work by Samedi Djeimguero, the youngest artist included in the exhibition, whose large-scale oil pastel drawings, reminiscent of Rothko, supply visual pools for the eyes to do a deep dive. John Patrick McKenzie and Daniel Green create text-based works that reference culture and politics, with wry wit. Their work included is mostly rendered on unusual surfaces such as a Victorian window, cigarette box, and fiberboard samples. Roland Record creates complex compositions made up of fragmented grids, intersecting patterns with occasional figures, hearts, houses, and flowers, while Nubia Ortega molds textured fish and playful toy cars in glazed ceramic. About Creativity Explored: For the past 35 years, Creativity Explored has given artists with developmental disabilities the means to create and share their work with the community, celebrating the power to change lives. Located in the vibrant cultural and dining corridor that transverses San Francisco’s Mission District, Creativity Explored provides a supportive studio environment, including individualized instruction from mentoring artists, quality supplies, and professional opportunities to exhibit and sell their art. The organization establishes these artists’ work as an emerging and increasingly important contribution to the contemporary art world.
