FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OZANEAUX ArtSpace is pleased to host “Personae – Portraits of Personal Fiction”, a socially engaged photography project by Artist Carlos David, curated by Miguel Rivera.
Creating an open stage for transformation, expression, and experimentation, Carlos David searches for ‘fiction within one’s reality’, inviting artists, teachers, firefighters, and others from his local community, to ‘re-present’ themselves or their alter ego. These New York participants dressed up in creative costume and makeup, and with full freedom of expression, were encouraged to become various fictional characters of their imagination.
Over the course of twelve months, David worked with a crew of creative professionals, including hair and makeup specialists, to realize an eclectic mix of nearly 100 characters, ranging from superheroes, to mythical creatures and fetishists, offering us a glimpse into New York’s collective subconscious. This team included Art Director: Elliott Ortiz, Makeup Artists: Engelina Wibowo and Olga Subach, Hair Stylists Jason Linkow and Francesca Maria, among others.
Carlos David is a Self-Taught Mexican Photographer who lives and works in New York City. Before falling in love with photography, David studied Hispanic Literature and worked as a ghostwriter for many years. His passion for taking portraits has evolved into regular collaborations with fashion and business magazines. He regularly photographs for Friends of the High Line, and conducts several photography workshops in New York City. The first viewing of PERSONAE, a solo exhibition at El Barrio’s ArtSpace, PS109 Galley, in New York City, marked the first solo exhibition of David’s career. www.carlosdavid.org
